President of NATO : Ishaan Surve
Deputy Presidents of NATO : Aryana Barai and Atharv Agarwal

“When we stand together, we are stronger than any potential challenger – economically, politically and militarily.”
- Jens Stoltenberg, NATO Secretary General

Dear Delegates and MUN Directors,

In an era defined by intersecting crises—from environmental degradation, economic volatility to technological disruption and global insecurity—the international community finds itself in continuous polycrises.

This age of global dilemmas demands more than traditional diplomacy; it calls for robust institutions and processes capable of anticipating hybrid threats, coordinating across national borders, and forging unity under pressure based on shared borders. As the world’s security dynamics become more complex, collective action and resilience are no longer ideals—they are imperatives.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) stands at the heart of this challenge. Originally formed as a defensive bloc, NATO today must evolve to meet an entirely new strategic landscape—one shaped not only by tanks and treaties but by cyber intrusions, climate migration, and critical infrastructure sabotage. As global powers increasingly weaponize emerging domains like the seabed and the Arctic, NATO’s role as both protector and policymaker grows ever more essential. The UNNATO Committee at DAIMUN 2025 gives delegates the opportunity to grapple with these very issues—where hard security meets soft power in the theatre of global cooperation.

The first agenda, “Measures to Promote NATO’s military, energy and cyber self-sufficiency” explores one of the most urgent and complex challenges facing the NATO alliance today: reducing its critical dependencies and enhancing its strategic autonomy across military, energy, and cyber domains. In a world marked by shifting global power dynamics and rising threats, this agenda comes at a pivotal moment.

Delegates must focus on curbing NATO’s overreliance on the American Pillar, securing their energy future in the face of instability in Ukraine and MENA and protecting the alliance from cyber threats.

Our second agenda, “Countering China’s growing influence in the Euro-Atlantic region and its impact on regional security,” calls for a thorough examination of how strategic economic goals are altering world power dynamics. By means of China's latest initiative such as the Belt and Road, China has progressively begun to expand its political and economic influence into Europe using infrastructure investments as strategic tools of leverage and impact. Moreover, with China’s expanding military presence, NATO is encountering a pivotal challenge in not only resisting economic coercion but also responding to this growing Chinese military presence. Delegates from NATO must collaborate to mitigate China's political influence. The sovereignty, unity and future of the Euro-Atlantic region depends upon the strong and unanimous response by all of you as the delegates of NATO.

The third agenda of the NATO is, “Fortifying its Maritime Deterrence and Seabed Sovereignty in the High North and North Atlantic”. As melting ice opens new maritime routes and exposes critical undersea infrastructure to sabotage, NATO faces rising hybrid threats in one of its most strategically vital regions. With over 95% of the world’s internet traffic flowing through submarine cables and energy pipelines crisscrossing contested waters, the stakes for maritime security have never been higher.

The decisions taken by the delegates of NATO in unanimity filled with compromises, impassioned speeches promise to leave an everlasting impact on global political structures and power dynamics for decades to come. Delegates have the opportunity to redefine NATO’s relevance and secure trans-atlantic interests while honing their negotiation, persuasion and solution development skills.

With the aim of resolving these pressing issues, fostering collaboration, and facilitating meaningful discussions, I, along with my talented Deputy Presidents, Aryana Barai and Atharv Agarwal, welcome you to NATO at the 22nd edition of DAIMUN and wish you the very best for the conference!

Warm Regards,
Ishaan Surve,
President of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization
