International Court of Justice
MEET THE EXECUTIVE BOARD

President of the International Court of Justice : Ishaan Shah
Deputy President : Ojas Bajaj and Siya Tantia

"International law now grants rights to all human beings, not only to citizens."
- Kofi Annan, Former Secretary-General of the United Nations

Dear Delegates and MUN Directors,

The foundation of disaccord between various areas of our worldwide presence are the differences in our methods of innovation, as well as the ideologies of the resulting diversity in culture. The present age finds its justice not established in the legitimate contentions presented by legal documents and treaties, but instead in the dissimilarity of power.

In this quest for development and collaboration, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) tries to give a specific regulation on the tremendous issues that countries face among one another. The ICJ’s pursuit for attaining not only equality but equity is the premise of its profound activity, a course which we intend to follow at DAIMUN. While the ICJ is present at the conflux of globalism and transnationalism where sensitivity is of utmost importance, eponymously justice remains at its heart.

During your time at DAIMUN’s ICJ, you will aim to contradict the notion that International Law has been misused by powerful or influential nations through the use of stringent legal reasoning, exhaustive evidence packets and enthusiastic witness testimonies. Our choice of cases rises to this very occasion, enabling our vibrant committee to view the cases from the lens of both developed and developing countries in the midst of no conflict that is extrapolated to military and political issues.

Our first case explores the application of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (Azerbaijan v. Armenia). The convention is the primary international law on human rights that prohibits racial discrimination in all sectors of private and public life. With the ability to set a precedent on how future legal disputes regarding international conventions shall be tried, this case provides the foreground of the final steps to resolve the conflict that causes a real threat to our world today.

Our second case details the application of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (The Gambia v. Myanmar) and further expounds on the theme of DAIMUN 2022, which focuses on hegemony in the 21st century global landscape. In the recent years, the Rohingya population has faced mass persecution in the form of a genocide due to the prevalent ethnic cleansing in Buddhist-majority Myanmar in recent years. As a major multinational crisis in South-East Asia, the proceeding of this case affects the lives of millions of individuals.

In the bounds of these contrasting cases, the ICJ explores hegemony in the modern era. My distinguished Deputy Presidents and I encouragingly invite you to the ICJ at DAIMUN 2022, a platform on which we hope you assimilate judiciary importance into your respective perspectives.

Warm Regards,
Ishaan Shah
President of the International Court of Justice,
Ojas Bajaj
